What is C.A.R.L.?

C.A.R.L. is your AI counterpart in EPX.

You can think of C.A.R.L. as a personalized AI layer that helps represent your goals, interests, needs, and priorities inside the platform. It is designed to help you discover relevant people, opportunities, events, knowledge, resources, and follow-ups without having to manually search through the entire network.

C.A.R.L. becomes more useful when EPX understands:

  • Who you are
  • What you are building
  • What you need help with
  • What skills, partners, or services you are looking for
  • What kinds of events, experiences, or opportunities matter to you
  • What your business or personal goals are
  • What you have shared in Profile, Fine Tune, Needs and Goals, and Interests

How is C.A.R.L. different from a generic AI assistant?

A generic AI assistant usually waits for you to ask a question.

C.A.R.L. is designed to be more proactive and more personal. It uses your Profile, Fine Tune settings, business needs, interests, and priorities to surface things that may matter to you before you go looking for them.

A basic assistant may answer, “Here are some networking tips.”

C.A.R.L. should move closer to, “Here are three people, two events, one resource, and one possible next action that match what you are trying to accomplish.”

What does C.A.R.L. help with?

C.A.R.L. can help surface:

  • Relevant introductions
  • Potential mentors, partners, investors, clients, or collaborators
  • Experts who match your needs
  • Events, Online Events, and Adventures that align with your interests
  • Vault content, training, tactics, or resources
  • Pods or communities that may be relevant to you
  • Business opportunities or relationship signals
  • Follow-ups and suggested next actions
  • Basecamp briefings based on what matters to you

C.A.R.L. is designed to reduce noise and bring forward useful signal.

What does “bring the network to me” mean?

“Bring the network to me” means C.A.R.L. is designed to help surface the people, knowledge, events, opportunities, and resources that fit your goals.

Instead of manually searching through members, events, Pods, articles, resources, and programs, C.A.R.L. uses your context to help identify what may be relevant and bring it into your Basecamp feed, briefings, recommendations, or other EPX surfaces.

How does C.A.R.L. know what is relevant to me?

C.A.R.L. uses available context from your EPX experience, including:

  • Your Profile
  • Your Fine Tune settings
  • Your Needs and Goals
  • Your interests and communication preferences
  • Your location or frequently visited cities, where provided
  • Your business needs
  • Your selected skills, services, partners, or capital needs
  • Your activity, engagement, and relevant platform signals
  • Your plan and account permissions

The more complete and current this information is, the more useful C.A.R.L. can become.

How does Fine Tune affect C.A.R.L.?

Fine Tune helps teach C.A.R.L. what matters most right now.

For example, if you tell Fine Tune that you are looking for investors, HR support, marketing resources, AI events, product strategy help, or a specific type of partner, C.A.R.L. can use that information to surface more relevant introductions, content, events, and opportunities.

Fine Tune is not a one-time setup. Update it whenever your goals, business priorities, travel, service needs, or areas of focus change.

How does Profile affect C.A.R.L.?

Your Profile helps C.A.R.L. understand who you are.

Your Profile may include your bio, location, professional background, interests, passions, goals, social links, education, Pods, activity, and other personal or professional information.

Your Profile gives EPX your identity. Fine Tune gives EPX your current direction. Together, they help C.A.R.L. become more specific and useful.

What are C.A.R.L. Briefings?

C.A.R.L. Briefings are personalized updates that may appear in Basecamp or the member feed.

They may include:

  • Recommended introductions
  • Opportunities that match your goals
  • Relevant experts or members
  • Invites or experiences
  • Knowledge, tactics, or resources
  • Follow-ups and suggested next actions

C.A.R.L. Briefings are meant to be signal, not social noise.

Can C.A.R.L. take action for me?

C.A.R.L. can surface recommendations and suggest next actions.

In some cases, C.A.R.L. may be able to take an action when you command or approve it, such as helping with an introduction or RSVP flow, depending on platform permissions and account configuration.

C.A.R.L. should not be described as making major decisions for you automatically. You remain the decision-maker.

Does C.A.R.L. make decisions for me?

No.

C.A.R.L. is designed to surface relevant information, recommendations, opportunities, and possible next actions. You choose what to approve, ignore, pursue, or ask for help with.

Why am I not seeing C.A.R.L. recommendations?

C.A.R.L. needs enough information to understand what matters to you.

If recommendations are missing, too broad, or not useful, review and update:

  • Profile
  • Fine Tune
  • Needs and Goals
  • Interests and Communications
  • Location or city preferences
  • Business needs
  • Skills, partner, service, or capital needs
  • Pods, Events, Online Events, or Adventures you have joined or shown interest in

If you recently updated your information, allow time for the platform to reflect that context.

Why do my C.A.R.L. recommendations feel irrelevant?

Recommendations may feel off if your context is incomplete, outdated, or too general.

For example, “I need business help” is less useful than “I need introductions to fractional CFOs, healthcare marketing partners, and investors for a $500K raise.”

To improve relevance:

  • Be specific in Fine Tune
  • Add current business needs
  • Update your Profile
  • Select accurate interests
  • Add relevant locations or travel plans
  • Join the Pods and experiences that match your goals
  • Remove or update old priorities that no longer matter

Can other members see what I tell C.A.R.L.?

C.A.R.L. uses your information to help personalize your EPX experience. Profile-facing information may help other members understand who you are, but Fine Tune-style inputs are primarily used to guide relevance, recommendations, briefings, and platform support.

Do not enter sensitive personal, financial, health, legal, or confidential business information unless EPX specifically requests it through an approved secure workflow.

What should I do if C.A.R.L. is not working?

Why is C.A.R.L. valuable?

C.A.R.L. helps reduce the time and effort required to find the right people, opportunities, knowledge, and next actions.

Instead of forcing you to search manually, C.A.R.L. is designed to learn your direction and bring relevant signal to you. The more accurate your Profile and Fine Tune inputs are, the better C.A.R.L. can help EPX feel personalized, proactive, and useful.
